About the author

Darryl Wiggers is a film and television expert with over 20 years of diverse media experience in television programming, production, print and new media.

Darryl graduated from York University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) in film theory and screenwriting. He subsequently formed Wiggers Custom Video, producing a variety of productions for private and corporate clients.

His TV programming experience began with Showcase Television in 1996 where he evaluated movies and series for possible acquisition. This was expanded to include evaluation of documentaries for History Television, which launched in 1997. Both channels were part of Alliance Atlantis Broadcasting (now Canwest Media). In 2001 he moved to Corus Entertainment as Director of Programming for SCREAM (now DUSK); the first channel in the world dedicated to horror programming.

After leaving Corus in 2007 he was Manager of Genre Programming for the launch of Super Channel and is presently a consultant for a variety of media companies, offering services based on his experience in television programming, new media, publicity, marketing, database management, writing and graphic design.

Darryl has written about film and television for various publications, including reviews and interview articles for Broadcast Week, The Globe and Mail’s television magazine. More recently he has contributed to the books 501 Movie Directors, 501 Movie Stars, and 100 European Horror Films, as well as Playback Magazine; the Canadian media trade publication. He also continues to co-moderate H-Film; an internet mailing list which encourages the scholarly discussion of cinema history and uses of media.
